Bags Of Love - Lincoln Quilters Guild

I sewed these bags from kits that I brought home from guild. They will hold a quilt, personal care items, an outfit, or other items, and will be given to children whom are removed from their homes in emergency situations. when sometimes there is no time to gather up personal items to take with them. These provide children with their very own Bags Of Love.

Santa Sacks

I sewed these cute Santa Sacks this summer for the Santa Sock program at the Lincoln Quilters Guild. These sacks will be filled with items like mittens, hats, personal care items, small toys, etc. and will be distributed to children at Christmas time. They are so simple, and just takes a fat quarter!

Lincoln Quilters Guild - QOV - Pillowcases

Here's the three pillow cases I completed from kits this summer for our guild meeting tonight. These will hold Quilts Of Valor quilts that are distributed to veterans.

And this one I've previously posted about, but will include it here also.

Just One Star - #5

Here's the 5th star I got done for the QOV project. And again we are to leave them untrimmed. I will be turning these in tonight at guild.

Cuddle Quilt top #2

This was another of my summer projects, a basic one patch scrap quilt, pieced from a kit that I brought home from guild. This will also be turned in as just a top.

From an ugly duckling to a cute swan - Cuddle Quilt Top

This is another of my Summer Sewing Projects for the Lincoln Quilters Guild. This was a kit that I picked up from guild to piece over the summer months. It was a scrappy one, so I thought I'd really enjoy it, and was anxious to piece it. Then, when I went to work on it, I quickly lost interest. I really had a hard time arranging the "quite ugly" little squares into blocks. Now, I know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but in my eyes, that's what they were. I kept thinking, how is this ever going to turn out cute enough for a little girl. I found my self constantly setting it aside and doing something else more enjoyable. Then, as the days sped by, I soon realized I needed to get this kit finished, regardless of how it looked. I plunged in, and quickly arranged the squares into pairs for chain piecing. Without really worrying about how bad they looked. Pairs turned into rows, rows turned into blocks. Soon it was time for the sashing, and then voila! A finished top! Well, without a doubt, those little squares, by some, can still be considered "quite ugly", but, with the cute sashing strips and cornerstone blocks they really look different! It's amazing how a bunch of little ugly ducklings can turn into such a cute swan! Since I procrastinated so long, this will be turned in only as a top.

Lincoln Quilters Guild - Gracie Cuddle Quilt

This is #1 of my Summer Sewing Projects for the Lincoln Quilters Guild. This one , I actually pieced most of it at a sew in we had last spring, but wanted to find some border fabric for it, then quilt it. I really liked the purples and the yellows, two of my most liked colors!

Here's a close up of the quilting. I am still in kindergarten when it comes to free motion quilting, but, someday I hope to change that! A lot of Cuddle Quilts are just tied, but I felt this one deserved to be quilted.

Just One Star- #3

Today, I completed star #3!

You can view the first two here As requested, I left it untrimmed. Hoping tomorrow, I will get at least two done, if not all three that are left.

Just One Star- One of my summer sewing projects for Lincoln Quilters Guild

At the last guild meeting in May I picked up a half dozen of these little stars to piece over the summer. They were all cut into kits, so all I had to do was sew them together. I made these two today. We were not supposed to trim them, that will be done later. I will be handing them in at the meeting in Sept. to help complete a quilt for Quilts Of Valor. These went together so quick and easy, now only 4 more to go!

Cuddle Quilts

Our local Quilts for Community project featured "Cuddle Quilts" at a workshop that was held Jan. 15th. at the International Quilt Study Center and Museum here in Lincoln. Some of the members of LQG (Lincoln Quilters Guild) met to assemble quilts and demonstrate how to make the quilts to visitors. Tours were also available of the beautiful historic quilts that are on dislay in the museum.

These "Cuddle Quilts" are distributed to our local hospitals, shelters for battered women and their chidren, and the City Mission that serves meals and provides shelter for the homeless.

The quilt kit that I worked on that day, was a scaled down version of Turning Twenty. A pattern that uses 20 different but coordinated fat quarters. In the scaled down version we used 12 different fabrics. My kit contained many shades and prints of greens and pink.

We sewed while we chatted and answered questions about the community project and the quits we were working on from the museum guests.

Here's a pic of the top I got done while there, it was a fun pattern, and sewed up quikly. I brought it home with me, to sandwich, and quilt, because they ran short of backing fabric that day, and I didn't want to go clear across town to the place where we hold our guild meetings to get some.
